Shona of M&J Design is an award winning interior designer, whose portfolio includes extensive experience of commercial projects. Two of the projects she worked on before founding M&J Design are featured here.
Head office for innovative company
This project was for a high quality and sophisticated head office interior design. The challenge was to create this commercial office space while retaining the building’s raw elements such as the exposed block-work, steel structure and permanent floor shuttering.
Shona was the lead interior designer for this ambitious project which required a full fit-out of the one and a half storey sub-basement space, including external windows, mezzanine floors, toilet block and staircases.
The dramatic entrance stair was one of many custom built features. Cantilevered from a single internal spine, the stair displays innovative design and complex engineering.
Historic coach house conversion
The second project featured here is the conversion of a derelict 19th century coach house to modern commercial premises.
Shona's interior design saw the building stripped back to the brickwork with all internal walls and floors removed. Many original features were retained and complemented with traditional materials such as oak and slate.
Modern curtain walling, linear lighting and a custom built galvanized steel stair were introduced to create a charming contemporary interior, which was awarded a BCO North Commendation in the Refurbished/ Recycled small buildings award category in 2014.
